Academic Pathways and Elective Courses in High School
At Paramus Catholic High School, we’re proud to offer academic pathways for upperclassmen, which help them navigate their interests and start pursuing the paths to achieving their dreams. These eight academic pathways each focus on a different area of interest from our core course curriculum offerings and include core classes and elective classes. We have partnerships with VHS Learning and Apex Learning to provide students with access to even more elective courses that align with their academic pathways. Some of the elective course options for each pathway include:
Business
This pathway is ideal for students who are interested in pursuing a business career upon graduation. Along with the required core courses, students must take three elective courses, choosing from options like:
- Accounting
- Business Law/Ethics
- Personal Finance
- Economics or AP Economics
- Intro to Marketing and Public Relations
Medical/Healthcare
If a student wants to work in healthcare as a doctor, nurse, or other medical professional, this pathway will help prepare them with core courses and three electives. Elective course options include:
- Psychology/AP Psychology
- Sociology
- Anatomy
- Intro to Physical Therapy
Technology/Computer Science
If a student is interested in computer science or information technology, this pathway is ideal. It includes core courses and three required electives, with options like:
- Computer Graphics
- Robotics
- 3D Printing and Design
Through Apex Learning, students can also take electives like 3D Game Development, App Design, 3D Animation, and more.
Law
Prospective law students can begin learning about areas of law with this pathway. Students need to take core courses and choose three elective courses, such as:
- Political Science
- S. History III
- Criminal Justice
- Philosophy
- Morality Honors I or II
Engineering
Students interested in engineering can benefit from this academic pathway. They must complete their core courses and three electives, like:
- Computer Programming
- AP Physics II
- AP Calculus AB
- AP Calculus BC
Cultural Studies
If a student enjoys languages or learning about other cultures, this pathway is ideal. It involves taking one foreign language and culture class, including:
- Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture
- Introduction to Arabic Language and Culture
- AP French Language and Culture
- AP Spanish Language and Culture
- AP Spanish Literature and Culture
- AP Italian Language and Culture

Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement
Students who are curious about working in law enforcement as a police officer, corrections officer, or related job should pursue this pathway. They will choose three elective courses, along with their core courses. Options include:
- Political Science
- Morality Honors I or II
- S. History III
- Analytical Statistics/AP Statistics
Fine Art
Creative students interested in art or fine arts will benefit from this pathway designed for them in Fine Arts. The courses they take will depend on their area of study, which include:
- Visual Art
- Digital Art
- Performing Art
- Music
Students must complete at least three courses in their chosen area. For students in the visual art fine art pathway, Apex Learning offers a Fashion Design elective.
