High School Course Overview

At Paramus Catholic High School, we believe in the accessibility of education. We adopt a personalized approach to learning to encourage all students to become academically successful.

Our STREAM-based learning model incorporates Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, to provide students with diverse course offerings. Students have the flexibility to choose their academic pathway to nurture passions and prepare for college and future careers.

In addition, all courses are offered at multiple learning levels. College prep, honors, and advanced placement offer opportunities for high-performing students to reach their maximum potential, while study skills courses assist incoming freshmen who need additional support. Peer tutoring and math and writing labs give all students the tools they need to succeed academically.

At every level, teachers integrate technology to enhance their curriculum. The entire facility is wireless, and iPads are utilized daily to support classroom learning.

Academic Pathways

Within our curriculum, Paramus Catholic High School has identified several academic pathways. These routes support students as they navigate their interests while thinking about their next steps after graduation. Through these pathways, students can focus on an area of interest and prepare for their future college major and career. We currently offer eight pathways:

  • Business
  • Medical/Healthcare
  • Technology/Computer Science
  • Law
  • Engineering
  • Cultural Studies
  • Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement
  • Fine Arts

Our partnership with The Virtual High School expands our electives offerings, giving students even more options to choose from. We also aim to identify internship opportunities for each student during their senior year, helping students earn meaningful experience within their career field of choice.

Advanced Learning Opportunities

In addition to our academic pathways, we also offer several opportunities for students to stretch their academic potential. Advanced learning programs provide a higher level of challenge and a chance for students to prepare for college-level coursework. We currently offer the following programs:

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement, or AP, are college-level courses taught by Paramus Catholic High School and approved by the College Board. Students will prepare throughout the school year for an AP exam taken in the spring. With acceptable AP Exam scoring, students may earn college credits. Most four-year colleges within the U.S. and outside it will accept credits earned through Advanced Placement.

AP Capstone

College Board also offers AP Capstone™. This innovative program is built upon two AP courses to equip students with the discipline necessary for success in college. In the AP Seminar, students will learn how to gather and analyze information to develop credible arguments on real-world issues. In AP Research, students will cultivate independent research skills to produce and defend an academic paper.

Project Acceleration

Project Acceleration is developed in partnership with Seton Hall University. Through this program, students may earn up to 22 college credits through approved Paramus Catholic High School courses taught at a college level. Students may pursue credit for up to three courses each semester. Credits earned through Project Acceleration are accepted at more than 200 colleges and universities.

Aquinas Scholars Program

The Aquinas Scholars program is a challenging interdisciplinary course sequence designed for highly motivated, gifted students. Program eligibility is determined by performance on the admissions exam. Aquinas Scholars must complete standard graduation requirements. They are also required to take Honors level courses of all they select while maintaining a 90% overall weighted average each year.

Wellness Program

Student health is a priority at Paramus Catholic High School. We believe that a balance between academic, spiritual, emotional, and physical wellness is key to success, both today and into the future. In support of this belief, we have implemented a student wellness program.

Central to this program is a healthy balance between work and relaxation. Mondays are exempt from test and homework due dates, allowing students to fully enjoy weekend downtime. Healthy meal choices and mental wellness activities are encouraged. Administrators maintain an open dialogue with the student body, empowering students to voice opinions and suggestions toward meaningful change.

Our wellness policy also extends to our faculty. By encouraging teachers to rest and recharge outside the classroom, we hope to revitalize them for stronger education and leadership.
