COVID-19 Statement for Our Community in Paramus, New Jersey

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, there is nothing as important to Paramus Catholic High School as the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, their families, and the greater community. We have worked to adapt to the circumstances and have developed a thorough and effective school pandemic plan. It is our hope that everyone in Paramus, New Jersey, and the surrounding areas feel confident that Paramus Catholic High School is taking the necessary actions to prioritize safety during this uncertain time.

Adhering to Local, State, and Federal Guidelines

Paramus Catholic High School has implemented the guidelines and best practices set by the State of New Jersey, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Archdiocese of Newark. Among them is a rigorous disinfecting schedule throughout our buildings, including the regular sanitizing of high-touch areas. We also make cleaning materials and hand sanitizers readily available to faculty and students who need them.

Meanwhile, faculty and staff are consistently communicating to students about the COVID-19 safety procedures they must follow. We are providing extensive information on health guidelines, hygiene, and social distancing, as well as a guide to identifying COVID-19 symptoms as recognized by the CDC. Anyone who is experiencing signs of illness should self-report their symptoms and avoid coming to school or traveling on the bus.

Visible Changes on Campus

Adjustments have been made to our high school’s buildings to better accommodate social distancing measures. Our ventilation has been improved including multilayered entrapping features and filters that are replaced regularly. The school has also been updated with visible guides that encourage safer hallway traffic patterns, limit restroom capacity, and point out where to find hand sanitizer.

In addition, the building will be operating on a capacity of 50% to avoid overcrowding. A three-day schedule allows groups of students to rotate between in-person and virtual classes. Desks have been spaced six feet apart, all facing a single direction in a classroom, which makes it easier for students to stay distanced while learning.

Our Specific Health and Safety Requirements

At Paramus Catholic High School, the following requirements are in place to keep everyone safe:

  • All individuals entering the building will have their temperature scanned.
  • All faculty, staff, and students must complete a monthly health questionnaire.
  • Students, faculty, and staff are required to clean and sanitize their areas with the materials provided.
  • Solid-colored cloth masks must be worn at all times while in the building, and students are advised to carry a second mask as a backup.
  • Everyone in the building is expected to follow six-foot social distancing guidelines.
  • Students should bring water bottles to stay hydrated rather than using water fountains.
  • Students may not share any items.

Responding to COVID-19 Exposures

We encourage families and staff to report any awareness of exposure to COVID-19 to us immediately. Paramus Catholic High School will follow the local contact tracing guidelines by interviewing the COVID-positive individual and notifying the teachers and students who have had close contact. Exposed students will be asked to isolate and participate in remote learning, and they may return to campus after receiving clearance from our nurse.
