For each unit of study, students will be required to take tests that are objective in nature and also submit essays demonstrating their ability to think critically about an issue after researching the topic in depth through outside sources. Students will be required to do summer reading in advance of taking this course.
- The Advanced Placement program in United States history is designed to provide highly motivated and interested students with the analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in American history. The program covers the Colonial Era through the Gilded Age and prepares students for intermediate college courses by making demands upon them equivalent to those of full-year introductory college courses in history. The course also aims at developing the skills necessary to arrive at informed judgments and conclusions based on a very focused study of the materials. Students are expected to present their ideas clearly and persuasively in both classroom discussions and writing.
