Guidance

The Guidance Department works collaboratively in furthering the mission of Paramus Catholic – the spiritual, academic and social development of each of the students. Guidance counselors work with the students from 9th to 12th grades. In 9th grade, the focus is on transition into high school and academic success. With 10th through 12th graders, academic progress continues to be monitored. Counselors intervene and assist students who may be experiencing difficulties and encourage the students who are meeting with success. Counselors facilitate parent-teacher and student-teacher meetings as needed. The 12th grade guidance program focuses on the college application process.

College advisement includes personal interviews with each student, as well as with parents. The guidance department sponsors a College Fair and seminars on the college application process and financial aid for students and parents.

The Guidance Department also coordinates standardized testing (PSAT and SAT) to provide additional information in helping students to make wise academic decisions.

The PC class of 2007 was offered almost $20,000,000 in scholarships and grants and will receive close to $7,000,000 from the schools they will attend. In recent years, graduates have been accepted to prestigious universities and colleges including: Barnard/Columbia, Boston College, Boston University, Bucknell, Case Western Reserve, Colgate, Cornell, University of Chicago, Drew, Duke, Fairfield, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Juliard School of Music, New York University, Northeastern University, Northwestern University, Princeton, Purdue, Rensselaer Polytech, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Southern California, Stevens Institute of Technology, and the US Air Force Academy.
