Career Development
Consider this: over the next 50 years, the U.S. population is projected to increase by nearly 50%; our knowledge base is expanding exponentially; and people are expected to change jobs five to seven times in their lifetime. Consider the implications for our workforce. Consider the implications for our students.

During a students four years at Paramus Catholic they are prepared for a successful life after graduation through a diverse means of study, spirituality, technology training, career planning and workplace readiness. Each study will be fully equip to demonstrate a high level of skill in critical thinking, decision making, problem solving, and self management skills.

The Guidance Department further supplements career education through the following:
  • A variety of career websites are available on the PC website so students have easy access when homework or research projects require career exploration. We also have multiple career resources and enrichment activities of which students are urged to avail themselves.
  • In freshman year, students are encouraged to explore career interests and are introduced to various career and college resources. This helps them to start planning for their future. many students will have selected a college major by the time they graduate PC.
  • In sophomore year, students are introduced to the Coin Career Community (Coin3). The Coin3 is an online career guidance and curriculum program that is available to administrators, teachers, counselors, students, and parents twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The two major purposes of the program are to:
1)  To provide teachers, parents, and students with obvious connections between skills being learned in the classroom with real-world applications of those skills (known as career and curriculum connections)

2)  To build a community of support personnel in the form of teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents that will work together to provide students with reliable resources and planning assistance that will insure their success in the workplace.
Within the program, there are five separate centers: the Exploration Center, the Planning Center, the Resource Center, the Communication Center, and the Usage Center.
  • In junior year, students asses their skill and career interests. They complete inventories such as the Coin Self-Assessment Test, skills inventory or career interest assessments. Counselors, along with their students and their parents, discuss implications for both college programs and career interests at individual meetings.
  • In senior year, counseling sessions provide time for our counselors to continue to encourage students to think about their future and the impact that a college major and career choice will have on their lives.
